Control The Amount of AI Art You See
AI-art tools have exploded in the past 3 months. We’ve seen amazing ways deviants are already integrating artificial intelligence into their workflow, including generating backgrounds and textures or using it to quickly generate inspiration. But we’ve also heard from some deviants that they don't want to see as much AI art on DeviantArt. We’ve made adjustments to our algorithms and introduced a new AI Art topic, which contains the ability to control the amount of AI content you see on DeviantArt. How To Reduce (or Increase) the Amount of AI Art You See It’s easy! Go to the AI Art topic and click the “...” menu. You’ll see three options: Show more like this in Home – Select to increase the amount of AI art you see. Show allocated amount -- This is selected by default and allows you to see a mix of art, based on your engagement and activity on DeviantArt, which can include AI art. Show less like this in Home -- Select to significantly reduce the amount of AI art you see. Please note:
UPDATE All Deviations Are Opted Out of AI Datasets by team, journal
UPDATE All Deviations Are Opted Out of AI Datasets
UPDATE: We heard the community feedback, and now all deviations are automatically labeled as NOT authorized for use in AI datasets. AI generators were trained using datasets collected from the open web. This includes content from creator platforms like DeviantArt, Pinterest, Twitter, and more. This was done without DeviantArt's permission and without your permission. To help prevent your work from being used by third party AI datasets without your consent, we implemented a flag to tell AI datasets not to use your art. All deviations on the platform are not authorized for inclusion in third-party datasets used to train artificial-intelligence models — unless you choose to opt in. DeviantArt has introduced the noai and noimageai directives to unambiguously communicate absence of such authorization. When an artist declares that their content may not be used as input to AI models, an HTML tag with the noimageai directive is placed on the page and an HTTP header with the noai directive

AI Image Recognition and Generation 101
The phrase "artificial intelligence" has long been around, but it's been trending upwards recently in the realm of art-world news. From prompt-based generators to image-recognition software, it can be intimidating to join the conversation without having an understanding of the technology behind the products. If you're looking for a quick primer on the basics of art-focused machine learning – somewhere between the beginner "your prompts create images based on artificial intelligence, possibly by magic" and actually getting a degree in data science – this journal is for you! First, let's talk about neurons. The human body has a biological neural network – neurons connected by synapses – that carries out various functions when activated. When your neurons take in information, such as a delicious smell of cooking or the touch of a hot coal, your body undergoes a reaction, salivating at the smell or recoiling and wondering why you grabbed a hot coal. Artificial neural networks, such as
Hey there, dA. It's been awhile... Not sure if anyone is even seeing this because dA's new format seems to have become a weaponized attempt at obscuring everyone's content into some malevolent black-background based orphanage. All categories have apparently vanished. Everyone's work is now unpinned from their origins and are now just free floating in practical obscurity. It seems we can only see work from our followers or stumble across it in someone's favorites or in some group. dA has defeated its own purpose. No longer can I search out work by category. I can't find new work other than at random and no one can fine mine. It's maddening. I am grateful to all of you who keep up but dA has ostensibly killed itself. After all these years this site should have become a finely honed machine to share work and now it's simply an ungainly sock drawer. Am I missing something? For me it's just another sad loss in a litany of sad losses over these past three years. My brother's suicide and

How to fix DA's horrible image compression
Yes, image compression is still a thing
As you might recall, i wrote about this issue some time ago. Yep, it’s been over a year. What has happened since? Not too much, i’m afraid. Things were being discussed for a while, until back in March of this year when we got one final official update (that i know of). Has the issue been fixed since? Nope, it certainly has not.
Now here’s the kicker: I did some digging and found a shockingly easy fix.
Let’s take this image by the talented JenZee (https://www.deviantart.com/jenzee):
Note: Jen Zee isn’t just anyone. She’s the Art Director of Supergiant Games, responsible for the amazing games Bas
